Dr. Umesh Rayar

    Dr. Umesh Rayar graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ceylon, Colombo, Sri Lanka with distinction and worked initially as a Temporary lecturer in Pediatrics, prior to proceeding to the United Kingdom and then to Canada for further training.
     
    He completed his Pediatric Residency at the Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary. He received additional training in Behavioral and Developmental Pediatrics in Calgary and was a Hospital for Sick Children foundation Research/Clinical fellow in Clinical Nutrition.
     
    He received his Board Certification in Pediatrics from Royal College of Physicians of Canada and the American Board of Pediatrics. He has been practicing as a Consultant Pediatrician in Brampton since 1987.
     
    Dr. Rayar was the Chief of Pediatrics at Peel Memorial Hospital and subsequently at William Osler Health System for 12 years. He was an examiner for the speciality exam in Pediatrics for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for 10 years.
     
    He is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, Department of Pediatrics and an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at McMaster University in Hamilton.
     
    He is the recipient of a number of awards including the prestigious Distinguish Community Pediatrician award presented by the Canadian Pediatric Society, Excellence in Quality Management of Medical Care award by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, Peel Memorial Hospital(WOHC) achievement award for exemplary service to the hospital and community and the Most Outstanding Professional award by the Canadian Tamil Chamber of Commerce.
     
    Dr. Umesh Rayar is also the recipient of the Physician Services Inc grant for Specialized training in Developmental Pediatrics with one of the pioneers in this field, Dr. Mel Levine at the Center for learning, University of North Carolina, USA. He is a former Vice president of the Canadian Medical and Dental Developmental Association, a humanitarian organization.
     
    Dr. Rayar's areas of interest include General Pediatrics, Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics (ADHD, Autism, Developmental delay, Tic disorders ) and Nutritional disorders(Failure to thrive, Obesity, Nutritional Anemia etc).
